Level III

Level III is the most skill-building and reading-research-based year of CACW.

This course is for the student who has successfully completed Level II and been recommended for advancement. Students cannot place into Level III via audition. Successful completion of this course is the third step toward fulfilling the requirements for the certificate of artistry.

The course of study for Level III is identical to Level II with the addition of the following independent study and other requirements to complete the additional credit:

  • A year-long independent study, designed in consultation with the faculty, to culminate in a critical paper (and other work, if appropriate to the project). This project can be a study of one author’s work; a study of selected works by authors whose work is related; or a study of literature of a particular period or genre. Progress will be monitored through frequent conferences with the faculty.

  • A final written exam on fiction and poetry.

  • A final oral exam on books selected by the student in consultation with the faculty.
