Level I

Level I is the introductory year of the CACW. 9th grade students learn the fundamentals of poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction. They also explore playwriting and graphic narrative scripts. 

 

Students are required to read up to eight novels, participate in genre workshops and pass an exit exam to advance to Level II.

Level II

Students join Levels III & IV  to build on their knowledge of the primary genres; poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction. They also engage in contract work tailored to their individual interests in terms of genre and subject matter. 

 

Students are required to read up to eight novels, four collections of poetry, and one essay collection.

Level III

This course is for the student who has successfully completed Level II and been recommended for advancement. Students cannot place into Level III via audition. Successful completion of this course is the third step toward fulfilling the requirements for the certificate of artistry.

Level IV

This course of study is for seniors who have already completed Level III and all academic requirements for the certificate of artistry. Successful completion of  this course is the final requirement for a Certificate of Artistry in Creative Writing.
