PARTICIPATION
10% OF YOUR SEMESTER GRADE
All students are expected to come to class fully prepared to participate in class discussions. This means, you have not only read the material that will be addressed during the class period but have also reflected upon the work and are ready to offer your thoughts, comments, analysis, and questions. While I recognize and value different personality types, I expect every student to contribute to the overall quality of discussions.
In addition to class discussion, fully participating in class means that you commit to diligently working on in-class writing assignments and fully engage yourself in group work.
Half way through the semester, I’ll ask you to perform a self-assessment (structured as an informal report) of your participation from which I’ll assign you a participation grade for the first half of the term. Your overall participation grade is worth 1O% of your total grade, which means that your midterm grade will be worth 5%.
Please note: Using your laptop or cellphone to create distractions for yourself and/or for others in the class will result in subtractions from your participation grade.
