Project One: Language Narrative (15 points)

 

Project One requires you to write a brief paper (3-5 pages) in which you will analyze and reflect on a moment in your life that involves your language and make it relevant to an outside audience. For the full description and grading rubric for this project, click here.  

 

Project Two: Review (10 points)
 

Project Two is a review. More specifically, it is a review of one of the talks on language available at Ted.com. The review will function as an informative and evaluative response to the thing you are reviewing. As such, it needs to be clear, pointed, argumentative, and backed up with evidence—all the things we look for when we are reading something that will help us to make a decision. For the full description and grading rubric for this project, click here.    

 

Project Three: Argument Essay (20 points)
 

Project Three is a collection of two essays that work to enhance argumentative skills. These include the following: a) an analysis of an argument (worth 5 points), a two-page essay where you will respond critically to a selected text incorporating an effective summary and direct quotes and b) an argument essay (worth 15 points), a 4-6 page essay where you will posit and defend an argument utilizing and synthesizing at least two course readings. Final Portfolio: Revision of Argument Essay (15 points)
 

Now that you have revised your argument essay in a digital platform, return to it as a text. The final portfolio asks you to substantially revise your argument essay and write an introductory letter to the revision that explains the progress you've made and how this progress fulfills the learning objectives of this course.
